The difference between good leaders and exceptional ones often lies in their ability to start each week with intention and clarity.
As an executive coach working with leaders across three continents, I've observed that those who consistently perform at their peak share specific Monday practices.
Begin your week by creating what I call a "Strategic Silence" – 30 minutes of undisturbed time before diving into operational matters. This isn't about rushing through emails or planning meetings. Instead, use this time to connect with your leadership vision and set your emotional and mental frequency for the week ahead.
Three elements make this practice particularly powerful:
Strategic Reflection: Review your key objectives through the lens of their broader impact, not just their immediate urgency. This perspective shift helps maintain focus on transformation rather than mere transaction.
Energy Alignment: Identify which upcoming interactions and decisions will require your peak mental state. Schedule these during your natural high-energy periods, typically early in the week when your strategic clarity is strongest.
Intentional Boundaries: Design your week with deliberate space for deep work. Your team's productivity often mirrors your own rhythm – when you protect your strategic thinking time, you implicitly give others permission to do the same.
Remember: Exceptional leadership isn't about constant acceleration – it's about maintaining the right cadence. Your Monday sets this rhythm for the entire week.
What's your ritual for starting the week? I'd be curious to hear your experiences in the comments.
